A New Life for the Henry Gonzales Convention Center
Originally built in 1968, The Henry Gonzales Convention Center was in need of a major expansion to meet the rapidly growing demands in the City’s robust convention industry. Market research showed that adding a major hotel component to the project would increase attendance and offer expanded amenities to both tourists and conventioneers. This project was the largest project ever built in San Antonio and ultimately transformed the convention center area as a destination location along the riverfront while meeting the high standards of a Grand Hyatt Hotel.
The lead equity partner was based in New York City and hired Rotholz to serve as its Owner’s Representative managing the design-build agreement. Over a 3.5-year period, Rotholz negotiated with the City, design and construction teams and equity partners to ensure that program and quality levels were achieved without compromise.
